Hi All,

We do not have any set specifications for cardboard cartons used for transporting our packed food items like packed cereals. So every time we get a new sample of cardboard box from a carton supplier I am not sure how to verify the sample. What would be the most basic inspection tests or methods to verify the quality of the carton sample? We do not have an in house lab neither can I find a lab that does testing of cartons.

To verify the GSM, stacking strength and durability - what are some methods that can be done manually without testing instruments. Kindly advise. Thanks.

Best regards,

Roshni

i would start by putting as much weight in a carton as it is rated for and carry it around to make sure that works

measure the cartons (including width of the panels)

use a rubber mallet on the corners to make sure the hold up

just a couple suggestions

As Scampi said, you can put weight to verify the sustainability. The testing weight is usually as 1.5 time as the heaviest weight you intend to load into the carton. For example, you plan to store 100kg goods in the cartons, test those cartons at 150kg.

Just an addition suggestion.

Hi Raju.

Also, apart from above can do bursting strength and drop test. Some more info in the below link.
