Hi All

has anybody any information if Gas fork lifts are allowed under BRC rules, we use electric forks close to production areas. (the product is polythene bags for food contact.) However to move equipment into the area our electric forks haven't the power to do so. We can't use diesel but would we get away with a gas fork lift hired to do the job?

thanks

Hi Mark,

There are no rules banning gas powered fork lifts for food packaging manufacturers, I would still be considering ventilation and emissions though. Also, that the use is controlled so it isn’t used inside and outside.

Not so relevant but for your information BRC Global Standard for Storage and Distribution Issue 3 does have requirements for diesel powered equipment:

6 FACILITY MANAGEMENT

6.1 EQUIPMENT

6.1.3 XD

All diesel-powered handling equipment, where used, shall incorporate an appropriate exhaust filter system for the removal of particulates that can pose a contamination risk to product.

Kind regards,

Tony

I work for a manufacturer of flexible plastic packaging for food contact.

We have had some problems in the past with LLDPE getting a pink or yellow tint due to using propane gas fork trucks.
