Trying to wrap my head around how this might play in to the SQF code - so here's the scenario:

Our production facilities produce finished products exclusively for use at our own retail locations, both foodservice and retail items. Our marketing team wants to use an item produced in our bakery (typically made and packaged for retail sale) as part of a collaboration with a brewery to produce a beer with our company name/branding on it. So where we typically only produce products where we are the customer, in this case we would be producing a 'raw material' to send to this brewery, which would then use it to make a product with our name/branding on it. Just trying to figure out if/how this would play into the SQF code specifically. Naturally we'll be adjusting our food safety plans accordingly to reflect the alternate use for the item.

Appreciate any guidance in advance, we're trying to get ahead of this one.

They will be considered a co-manufacturer in this situation.

Since your company owns the brand (and the product), you will have to audit the site and make sure they have procedures in place for producing safe food.

If they are GFSI (particularly SQF) certified, you can start by reviewing their past audit report, otherwise a Gap assessment or an audit of the site, could be a starting point.

Please review the section for requirements for supplier/co manufacturing in the SQF standard.

Thanks! In looking through this part of the code, it mentions specifically items produced by the other manufacturer that fall under the site's scope of certification, which this does not - we would be making the baked good that the brewery would use in their beer they're making for us. Historically we maintain vendors like this as 'private label' supplier that make something we don't, just with our branding - it's just different this round because we're supplying them with a material for their manufacturing process. I also probably wouldn't classify the brewery product as 'high risk' necessarily, so may not require a full audit or site visit? Thoughts?

Very appreciative of the feedback, I think if nothing else we could make preparations as if they were a co-manufacturer and we'd only be that much better for it. Just trying to make sure the juice is worth the squeeze and such.

It would fall under contract manufacturer. Whether they make it and pack it with your label or you ship a raw material to them to work with and package under you label and for all intents and purposes it apoeats to come from your company that is a Contract Manufacturer and there are specific requirements under SQF for this.
