Hello All, I was after some advice as to whether there is a standard for the process control of Modified Atmosphere Packaging gases? The various gases are supplied in a pure form either bottled or generated on site. My question relates to the regulation and control of that gas. Many OEM's and end users just appear to use standard regulators and control valves to dose the MAP gas and in most cases these products do not use food grade grease or have seals and contacts surfaces that do not conform to FDA certification or EU 1935 2004 requirements. Is there a standard / regulation that covers this? I don't think so speaking to OEM's gas suppliers and end user.

Prime concern should be to prevent cross contamination. Food grade grease must be used as an incidental product contact may happen.

They may not have been designed with food facility usage in mind in many cases, but use of food grade lubricants in compressors etc. is pretty standard.  There is also a requirement in GFSI and some regulatory standards for very fine filters near point of use to contain the potential risk from the common industrial components upstream on compressed gas lines.
