Hello All,

Good to see you again,

Wanna discuss a topic about foreign material but not metal.

What will be the best action to prevent foreign material, like shatter of paper, shatter of cardboard in the food industry that uses carton boxes as their secondary packaging and is a manual process?

It would be great if I could hear an answer from you guys soon

Best regards,

Rafif

Conduct regular training sessions to educate employees about the importance of identifying and preventing foreign material contamination. This could include proper handling techniques, emphasizing the need for vigilance, and providing resources for reporting any potential issues.

Implement a robust quality control process that includes thorough inspections of the carton boxes before they are used for packaging. This could involve designated personnel responsible for checking boxes.

Conduct routine audits to evaluate the effectiveness of preventive measures. This will allow to identify any areas that require further improvement and make necessary adjustments to the procedures.

First job in QA was at a spice/dehydrated vegetable plant.  Vast majority of our product came in cardboard boxes with poly bags inside.  We trained employees to open the boxes down on pallets, inspect the poly liner for debris before removing from the box and placing it near the feed hoppers for equipment (blenders, mills, etc).  A single cut to the poly bag to open and dump the product prevented rips from forming on the bag.

I have similar experience - in addition we made a detailed bag opening SOP with pictures leaving no questions on how the cartons/bags should be opened.
