Anyone got a food defense team and have roles and responsibilities defined?
If you do please share your ideas with Edyta.

Thanks,
Simon

Mine is the same as for Crisis Management. It also involves senior managers and support staff such as engineers, admin staff and QA's.

In reality, i do all the risk assessments, document them and relay any findings to the team, although i do get a team member to verify my findings.

As an aside, i also include biosecurity as part of my Food Defense procedures and the whole lot falls under Food Safety.

Our food defense ("task force") team is reponsible for risk assessments and our food defense plan . They dont have individual responsibilities within the plan, but they are multi-discaplinary team made up of both hourly and salaried memebers. They usually meet monthly to discuss any issues and annually to go over our food defense checklist & risk assessments.

A generic checklist for food defense - self assessments can be found here.

We stipulate in our Product Defense Policy that the members of the facility's HACCP team will also serve as the facility's Product Defense Team. We also state that the QA Manager is ultimately responsible for carrying out the tasks outlined in the policy.

If you are in anyway regulated by the Food And Drug Administration, or are subject to the wide reach of FSMA, the answer would be yes.

See here.

Our Food Safety Team is lumped in with our Safety/HACCP Team. We have a combination of Management, Office, Production, Shipping, and Maintenance personnel (there may be a few I'm forgetting at the moment). Basically, a few key people from everywhere in the plant. Our team goes over any and all safety issues in the plant, whether related to food safety or employee safety.

Is it a must to have a leader in food defense team? Can food safety team leader become a food defense leader too?
