hello, i work in a seed cleaning company and we're currently in the process of acquiring the FSSC 22000 certification. we were required to conduct a mock recall for one of our products.

my Questions are?

can a mock recall be initiated by a customer/client?

if it is initiated by a client, how can you handle it and how should the recall report be formulated?( our operations deal with clients that purchase in lots(full lot) or more.

2. I was doing a hazard assement for the chilli sorting line. it has a pre-cleaner that removes big debris and soil but does not remove the particles equal to the size of the chili pods. then we have a sorting table and finally a magnet system close to the silo where bagging is done. hand sorting is therefore the last step of removing all the extraneous matter apart from ferrous metals. does this qualify to become a CCP because we do purity tests to identify the levels of the extraneous matter of which the percentage should not exceed 1%. advise

Hello,

Yes a mock recall can be initiated by a customer/vendor, but it would be up to the two companies to agree on working together. I have had vendors reach out asking if we would be willing to perform a mock recall with them. They would then state they are mock recalling a given lot number and asked us to mock recall as much of the product we can and give them the results. This is entirely voluntary of course.

Is this more of a traceability a exercise? Are they asking for total production minus on-hand minus shipped? Or current amount at each ship to or just account for where everything went? Are they asking for all raw materials used etc? Will the mock recall you performed (at least annually) the last time satisfy them or are they asking specifically for their product?

I realize it's a lot of questions but they're two different things and you need to be sure of which it is. It might also be an opportunity to perform the annual mock recall for your FSSC-22000 cert.

Hi Mushabe Paddy,

From iso22000-2018

The organization shall verify the implementation and effectiveness of withdrawals/recalls through the use of appropriate techniques (e.g. mock withdrawal/recall or practice withdrawal/recall) and retain
documented information.

I don't quite understand why you cannot simply initiate the mock recall yourself ? The latter is a common practice.

Re - sorting line. The control classification (within fssc22000) relates to yr choice of  PRPs prior to the hazard analysis. IMO the set-up you describe will typically, for a haccp risk assesment, result in the sorting line as a PRP and the magnet as a CCP. although iso22002-1 potentially offers PRPs for both stages,

Can have a look at this article which is oriented to a Codex haccp plan -
